LegislationConstitution(Adopted on July 12, 1991) (Document Status on July 12, 1991) Article 3 Bulgarian is the official language of the Republic. Article 36 1. Every citizen has the right and the obligation to study and use the Bulgarian language. 2. Citizens, for whom the Bulgarian language is not the mother tongue, will have the right to study and use their own language alongside the duty to study the Bulgarian language. 3. Cases where only the official language is to be used will be determined by law.
